During the summer of 2022, I met with the head designer and owner of Acorn Design Group, to come up with a plan to create a more usable back yard for our family. At that time, our yard had a 3 foot slope away from the house and was over-planted with trees and groundcover, which left us with very little lawn area for our young children to play. Included in our wish list was an outdoor kitchen, patio and an area with a fire feature. The 3D design they presented was absolutely stunning and even better than what we had imagined. They regraded and leveled our the back yard, installed a gorgeous stone retaining wall to match the stone on our home, incorporated lighting under the stone wall coping, installed a new bluestone patio, bluestone walks from the driveway, side door and front entry, an outdoor kitchen and an amazing stone fire pit. We loved it so much, we decided to include a new brick driveway, complete outdoor landscape lighting and all new landscaping. The end result, our yard and home is breathtakingly beautiful both day and night and every detail is absolute perfection. After purchasing our home in Hinsdale during the fall of 2018, we soon discovered our back yard was a large pond after every rain event; it was so severe, ducks were nesting in our back yard! ​Acorn Design Group is all about creating unique outdoor spaces that invite people to explore. This was by far the best landscape makeover experience we have had. We redid the front entrance and yard which has some grading challenges. I am not one to write reviews, however, in this case I feel the need to do so. It is now a few years after the installation by Acorn Design Group and both my wife and I are just as happy today as we were when the job was finished! Acorn Design Group was contacted the summer of 2013, along with two large, well-known landscape companies in the area, to give our yard a full makeover. Each company was given the same requirements. Acorn's response was the only proposal that provided creativity and attention to detail that we were looking for; the two larger companies designs were much more "cookie-cutter," and more like we were just another project to them. The owner of the company was onsite throughout most of the installation, to provide the oversight that I appreciated. I contacted some of the top landscaping firms in the area and after the daunting task of interviewing and reviewing landscape designs and proposals, the choice was clear of whom to choose for our new landscaping. The staff at Acorn Design Group actually listened, responded and produced the perfect solution to our landscaping. The scope of this project was large and required a complete restoration of our yard. The work included a new bluestone patio, sidewalks, steps, and courtyard, with a lovely water feature. To control the drainage and rain water, they designed and installed a meandering dry stream throughout the property, with custom built stone seating, sited in various locations. Additionally, the new plan included trees, shrubs, perennials, a stone firepit and drainage. The staff at Acorn Design Group collaborated seamlessly with, and offered wonderful ideas to the groups that simultaneously built our cedar deck, iron fence and outdoor lighting. The end result was more beautiful than we imagined.
